Nationwide Series – Subway Jalapeno 250 7/4/09

57837226A multi-car crash during an attempt at a green-white-checker finish gave Clint Bowyer his first restrictor plate race win @ Daytona International Speedway in Friday night’s Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250.

“I can’t begin to tell you what this place means to me, my family,” Bowyer said in victory lane. “Everything you ever work for is to come to Daytona, let alone win a race here… The 18, Kyle gave me a good push right there at the end. Luckily, the caution came out. Who knows what would have happened in that last lap… It’s been tough this year. This is pretty special.”

After the green-white-checker restart, the caution froze the field with Bowyer in the lead. Mike Bliss, Danny O’ Quinn Jr, Robert Richardson Jr, Jason Keller, David Gilliland and John Borneman III were involved in the final crash of the night.

Bowyer was strong all night. He started on the pole and went on to led a race-high 48 laps. This is Clint Bowyer’s first win and 4th top-10 finish of the season. “At RCR, things haven’t been the best this year,” Bowyer said. “You’re looking for that little thing, and hopefully this victory will give everybody a pep in their step and some excitement.”

Kyle Busch finished 2nd for his 14th top-10 finish in the series this year. “That was the best we had,” said Busch. “Clint’s car was better than ours tonight. We have some work to do before coming back here.”

Carl Edwards finished third followed by Joey Logano and Kasey Kahne. Sprint Cup Series regulars filled 8 of the top-10 finishing spots.
