2009 NCWTS Nashville Rick Ren and Ron Hornaday in Victory LaneWhen you’re on a roll, you’re on a roll!

A series record 5-in-a-row for Ron Hornaday Jr at Nashville Superspeedway.

“That’s unheard of in this time and age. Five, can you believe that?” Hornaday said in amazement. “I finally got me a Sam Bass guitar!”

Hornaday rolled over the competition leading twice for 115 of the 154 laps ran. He had to outlast a rain delay and a green-white-checkered finish for his 5th consecutive win. His 6th win of the season and 45th career. He moves up to tie for second on the all-time consecutive win list across NASCAR’s top 3 national series. Richard Petty and Bobby Allison, both won 5 consecutive races in 1971 in the Sprint Cup Series. Petty holds the all-time record with 10 straight Cup victories posted in 1967.

“This is unbelievable. You can never compare to The King (Petty) and Bobby Allison, but this is an honor to just be in the same book as they are,” Hornaday said. “This will mean a lot to me when I’m sitting down with my grand kids looking through the record book and my name will be in there with the Allisons and Richard Petty.”

Crew chief Rick Ren also moved up in the history books for most wins by a crew chief in the truck series. He’s scored 27 victories with five different drivers, although the Ren-Hornaday combo has produced 16 wins since the beginning of the 2007 season.

“We both made history tonight,” Ren said. “It’s not much better than this. I think most wins is an honor, but what I really feel good about is I’ve done it with five different drivers.”

Hornaday had a 2.8-second lead over 2nd place Brian Scott before a late race caution brought the field back together for a green-white-checkered overtime finish. Not much of a problem for Hornaday. He easily pulled away from Scott to won by .944 seconds. Brian Scott was good to score a runner-up finish.

Polesitter Timothy Peters led the first 33 laps before Hornaday jumped out in front. Hornaday started 4th.

Colin Braun finished 3rd followed by Peters and Matt Crafton rounding out the top 5.

There were only 3 lead changes among 3 drivers: T. Peters 1-33; R. Hornaday Jr. 34-85; J. White 86-91; R. Hornaday Jr. 92-154.

Ron Hornaday Jr. extends his points lead to 216 over 2nd place Matt Crafton.
