Peters took the lead on lap 117 and never looked back. “It’s awesome,” he said. “Words can’t describe what I’m feeling right now.” It was Peters’ first series win in 64 starts. It’s his 12th top-10 finish so far this season.

“I don’t think I watched the last eight laps at all,” crew chief Chad Kendrick said. During the spring race at Martinsville, Peters was running 5th with less than 10 laps to go before running out of gas. The fuel question came up again late in the race for the team as they just made 1 stop over the race’s duration.

Peters crossed the line 1.815 seconds ahead of Bodine. “Timmy’s such a good kid,” Bodine said. “He’s as down to earth and as hard-working a guy as you’re going to find. Until he got into the team with (Red Horse Racing owner) Tom (DeLoach), it was him and three guys putting the truck together, driving it to the racetrack and racing it and coming home and fixing it and going back. He worked his tail off to get to where he is. That’s why I’m tickled to death to see him win.”

After leading 62 laps, Denny Hamlin made a green flag pit stop that dropped him back through the field. He rallied back to finish 6th.

Points leader Ron Hornaday Jr. led 54 laps in the race. He finished 4th.

Ron Hornaday Jr. extended his lead in the standings to 224 points over 2nd place, Matt Crafton.

Rain moved through the area early Saturday forcing the cancellation of Sprint Cup Series practice, but track officials were able to dry the track in time to squeeze the truck race in. The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup continues tomorrow from Martinsville Speedway. TV coverage starts at 1 on ABC.
