Logano called it “the most fun race I’ve ever had in my life.” It almost seemed like he wasn’t going to play a factor early on in the race. On lap 50, contact with Greg Biffle forced him into the backstretch wall as Biffle was passing for the lead. Logano rallied back from 25th to the front for the closing laps.

“I didn’t think we had a shot at it after Biffle decided to put us in the wall,” said Logano. “Apparently, that was the only way he thought he could beat us, but you can’t put this 20 team down. We never quit, kept digging all day. I definitely didn’t think we had a shot at it. It was just amazing. … That was the most fun race I ever had in my life. I went through a point there where (I said to myself) ‘I don’t have a shot at this’ to ‘Try to salvage a top 10 out of it’ to bringing home a W.”

Scott Speed wrecked in turn 2 with 2 to go which brought out the final caution and set up the green-white-checker finish.

It’s win #5  and a 15th top-10 finish this season for Logano. He started from the pole with his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Kyle Busch beside him.

Tom Logano, Joey’s father, confronted Greg Biffle on pit road after the race. NASCAR officials pulled the elder Logano’s credentials. A meeting with NASCAR has been scheduled to discuss the altercation.

“Oh, yeah, I saw him flip me off, yeah,” Biffle said. “They’ve got short memories, you know? They don’t remember last week (at Kansas) when they smashed my left front fender in. See? It’s all about themselves—and it’s not always about you. He was lucky that he had time to fix it. I got mine smashed in on the last run of the day. I didn’t have time to fix mine. I fell back and finished wherever I did.”

By the way, Biffle finished 5th last week in the Nationwide race at Kansas Speedway.

Series points leader, Kyle Busch will be credited with leading a race-high 66 laps. He is sick with the flu, strep throat and a sinus infection. His teammate, Denny Hamlin, was on hand to fill-in as a relief driver. Hamlin jumped in during a pit stop while under caution on lap 39.

“It’s just temperature,” Busch said after the driver switch. “When I get in the car and I get hot, I start not being able to see exactly straight. The car was really good, though. … Unfortunately, I didn’t feel it was in my best interest or the team’s best interest to win this race to keep going. More laps and getting hotter in the seat probably would have diminished my performance a little.”

Busch seemed confident that he could race in Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race, Pepsi 500.

“Another problem is wanting to get out today in order to compete in the full 500 miles tomorrow,” Busch said. “Fortunately, today (Saturday), we’ve got Denny Hamlin, who’s a great relief driver that can drive for me. I can try to go back now and rest up, cool down to try to get this fever under control and be ready for (Sunday).” When asked if he had a relief driver lined up just in case, Busch said, “Not yet — I think I can do it.”

On a restart with 21 scheduled laps to go, Hamlin took the lead and held it until the next restart. As Hamlin was holding off a challenge for the lead by his series nemesis, Brad Keselowski, Greg Biffle took it 3-wide. Hamlin and Biffle collided, sending Hamlin to the garage with a DNF.

“I was trying, if I hold the line low, (Keselowski) ends up wrecking us anyway,” Hamlin said. “Either way it was going to be a bad situation.”

Hamlin finished 31st in the No. 18 while Biffle was 14th.

Busch lost points in the championship hunt. His lead has been reduced to 155 points over 2nd place, Carl Edwards.

Brian Vickers posted a runner-up finish followed by Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, rookie Michael Annett, Brendan Gaughan, David Gilliland, David Ragan and Jason Keller completed the top-10.
