The starting line-up for Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series Goody’s Pain Relief 500 will be determined by this year’s current owner points. Teams use last season’s points for the first five races of the season. The deadline just came and went. Sunday’s race is #6 on the schedule. Points leader Kevin Harvick will start from the pole.

“Obviously this is the place where, if you’re going to have that happen, this is the place you want to do it,” Harvick said. “We’ve had a good, solid five weeks and that’s what we set out to do at the beginning of the year, to start well and run solid, to run up front and lead laps. Fortunately we’ve been able to do that and I hope we’ll be able to have 31 more.”

Matt Kenseth starts second beside Harvick. Kenseth trails Harvick by only one point. “We don’t usually qualify very well here. I don’t really qualify very well anywhere, but especially here,” the former series champions said. “So to start second is good.”

Harvick and Kenseth aren’t known as the best at Martinsville. Harvick hasn’t finished any higher than 7th in his 17 races at the paperclip-shaped short track. He has finished 7th – 3 times. In 20 starts, Kenseth remains winless – only posting 2 top-5 and 6 top-10 finishes.

“Mr. Martinsville” Jimmie Johnson will start directly behind the two. Johnson’s on a hot streak after winning three of the first races this season. At Martinsville, Johnson has won six of the past eleven races.

“What we are doing is pretty amazing, so it just depends on how everybody wants to spin it,” Johnson said. “We’re working extremely hard to operate at this level. There’s a lot to be proud for if you’re a 48 fan, and what we’re doing isn’t easy. So I think it just depends on how you look at it. Hopefully people will start viewing it — I think a lot are viewing it as something — even if they aren’t a 48 fan, pretty remarkable what we’re doing, and hopefully the masses will agree.”

Greg Biffle will start 4th followed by Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, Jeff Burton, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Paul Menard and Kyle Busch.

Aric Almirola starts second followed by Matt Crafton, Mike Skinner, Timothy Peters, Todd Bodine, Johnny Sauter, Tayler Malsam, Johnny Benson and Rick Crawford with top-10 starting positions.
