“It was fun,” Truex said. “We had to start back there because of the rain, and we knew it would be challenging. When you get on these big tracks, the dirty air is really tough, so in the beginning, we just fought that track position and got real tight in traffic.”

It’s the second time Truex won the Sprint Showdown. It will be his 4th appearance in the exhibition race.

Greg Biffle finished second to Truex to also transfer into the All-Star Race.

“I’m excited that I am keeping my role up of making every all-star race since I’ve been in the Sprint Cup Series,” Biffle said.

Carl Edwards won the Sprint fan vote to advance into the All-Star Race. He finished 10th in the Showdown.

“I think we led most of the Showdown one time and finished third, and that was tough,” Edwards said earlier before the race. “To sit back and watch that (All-Star) race is not what any driver wants to do, but that’s part of what makes it so special. That it really is an elite group of drivers in the All-Star Race. If we earn our way into it, then we’ll go racing.”

David Ragan lead the first 20-lap segment after starting from the pole. He was caught up in an accident that also involved AJ Allmendinger and David Gilliland. Ragan came back to finish 6th.

Juan Pablo Montoya and Regan Smith collided which sent both of them going home early.

The were 2 caution flags for 3 laps: Laps: 18-20 (#42, 78 accident turn 1); 21-21 (#6, 38, 43 accident frontstretch)

There were 2 lead changes among 3 drivers: D. Ragan 1-20; G. Biffle 21-32; M. Truex Jr. 33-40
