It’s win number 5 already this season for Busch in the series and his second consecutive series win. It’s his 35th career victory.

“We had a great race car,” Busch said. “In the beginning, it was really, really tight. We made changes, but it got really loose. I was trying to fight it and find out what I needed.”

This is Busch’s 6th win at Charlotte, tying him with Mark Martin for the most wins there in the Nationwide Series.

Busch had to serve a pass-through penalty for speeding on pit road early in the race which put him two laps down. He made it to the front as the laps were ticking down. Busch took the lead for the first time on lap 140 and held on through a green-white-checkered finish to score the win. Busch led once for 64 laps, one lap less than the race-high 65 laps Brad Keselowski led. Keselowski settled for runner-up finish.

“It was all about the (final) restart and he just beat us,” he said.

Keselowski leads the standings by a mere point over Busch, the reigning series champion. Kyle Busch recently announced he would not run the entire Nationwide Series schedule this year.

“I’m going to miss running with those guys, but I feel it’s a good thing,” Busch said on the subject. “It’s for the best for the Cup program and making sure we keep our focus there and trying to win that championship.”

“I’m really going to miss him not running next week,” Keselowski said. “We bring out the best in each other—and sometimes the worst. We’ve still got the points lead. It really means a lot to me and this team to have the points lead going into Nashville, before some of these Cup guys quit.”

Busch’s Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Joey Logano finished 3rd followed by Justin Allgaier, Ryan Newman, Kevin Harvick, Jason Leffler, Reed Sorenson, Carl Edwards and Clint Bowyer completing the top-10.
