“It was just an awesome race car with an awesome team,” Keselowski said. “I sure wish Kyle (Busch) was still here because it would be fun to beat him.”
Busch announced last week that he would not race a full Nationwide Series schedule, even though he was second in the point standings.
This is Keselowski’s second win at Nashville and third of the season in the series.
The two drivers in the field with the best stats on concrete tracks rode 1-2 for much of the race. While Keselowski led a race-high 97 of 225 laps, Carl Edwards led for 52.
“It was a good battle,” Edwards said. “I needed one more restart to try and work Brad, and have a chance at it, but his car was faster and he did a really good job driving it.”
It’s the 10th time that Edwards has finished in the top-10 in 11 races at Nashville Superspeedway. It’s also the 10th top-10 finish for Edwards this season.
Keselowski and Edwards were just two on a very short list of Sprint Cup Series drivers that were pulling the double and flying in from Pocono Raceway.
“It’s still physically demanding. I’m sure I’ll do a lot of sleeping on the way to Pocono,” Keselowski said. “When I’m sitting the plane, I don’t think -- Oh man, I can’t believe I’ve got to fly to Nashville. I’m thinking, Oh wow, I can’t believe somebody is paying me to drive in Nashville.”
After starting from the pole, Justin Allgaier led the first 58 laps. He finished 4th.
`“It was a rough night despite finishing fourth,” said Allgaier. “The Verizon Dodge Charger was really fast early and, unfortunately, we got caught a lap down when we made a green flag pit stop only to have the caution come out. We fought back from 18th and moved all the way up to second with under 40 laps to go. I got bounced around out there pretty good tonight. Our fenders got beat in a bit and really changed the characteristics of the car. That’s just racing. It stinks that we lost some points to the guys in front of us in the standings. Congratulations to Brad and his team on the win. All in all, it’s a good, solid fourth-place finish for us.”
