Starting from the pole, Keselowski lead early and often for a race-high 89 of 125 laps.
“This one was even harder,” Keselowski said. “We lost our clutch and ruined the burnout. I couldn’t get out of the pit stall (after losing the clutch) and kept losing spots after that. We just fought back from adversity with an awesome Dodge Challenger. These new cars are sweet to drive and they’re even better to drive when this Dodge Challenger is that fast. I’m proud of everyone on this Discount Tire team. I want to win races going for the championship. We just don’t want to coast through it. We’re pushing as hard as we can for all these people that are working their butts off at Penske Racing and for those fans that support us, especially here in Michigan; these are my guys. It’s awesome to win in front of them.”
Keselowski took the lead for the final time with 8 laps remaining and held off late race charges from Carl Edwards and Kyle Busch to score his fourth win of the season and his tenth career series win.
“I thought the 18 (Busch) and 60 (Edwards) would get in a really good draft and run us down,” Keselowski said. “It didn’t work out that way. I’m thankful our car was that good.”
Carl Edwards lead twice for 19 laps in his quest to chase down the points leader.
“It was a pretty wild last lap,” Edwards said. “I wish we could have won that thing. Brad’s guys did a good job, he did a good job and they earned that victory. I wish we could have gotten a victory here for Jack and Ford and this Mustang, but this is a pretty good showing. I guess we will just go race tomorrow. Man, those guys did a really good job, congrats to Brad.”
Keselowski extended his lead in the standings to 347 points over Edwards, second in the standings.
Kyle Busch spent the day riding in the back of the top-10 and failed to lead any laps.
“Can’t thank Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and the guys enough,” Busch said. “They did work their butts off all weekend. We missed it pretty bad. We didn’t have a third-place car at all. We just fought all day and tried to do the best we could with this Z-Line Designs Camry, and gave it a run for the money there at the end. It was real unfortunate that we’re so far behind on the COT program.”
Series regular Justin Allgaier finished fourth followed by Paul Menard, Joey Logano, Elliott Sadler, Reed Sorenson, rookie Colin Braun and Kevin Harvick completed the top-10.
